Observing the designs of multiple comic book artists, the most interesting artist that caught the public eye was Andre Franquin. Andre Franquin was an artist born and raised in Etterbeek, Belgium, alive from 1924 until he passed away during 1997 in France. Franquin was highly known and acknowledged for his comic book strips Gaston, Marsupilami and Spirou et Fantasio, during a time period between 1951 to 1969 known as the series golden age. This period had people consider Andre Franquin to be one of the greatest comic artists to live.

During the beginnings of Franquin’s career, he was attending school taking art drawing lessons until relocating to an short-lived animation studio due to WWII. This lead to him meeting some of his future colleagues. One of them, named Joseph Gillian, was the creator of the comic strip Spirou et Fantasio. He decided to pass over his ownership of the strip to Franquin, who renovated it by adding and creating longer elaborate storylines along with additional characters. By 1951, Franquin had discovered his artistic styles and began his golden era, becoming a successful hit. Within 1951 to 1967, Franquin had created the strip Gaston Lagaffe and also created smaller comic strip pieces depending on his emotional states. As an example, between 1961 and 1963 Franquin was suffering from depression, which he expresses on 2 small works named Bravo Les Brothers and Isabelle, both being characters presenting an intent storyline correlated with his depressional stage. Franquin began being considered as an undisputed master of the art form, being on a par with other artists skill levels and fame. He began receiving accolades, several books written about him and having some of his artwork portrayed in museums around the European nation.

Franquin died leaving inspiration amongst his peers to pursue a career that revolves around their artistic abilities and atmosphere. He influenced many other famous artists to become what they are today and is still being glorified to this day.
